Anyone been to a Gay Sauna? – tips and rules

You may have heard quite a lot about Gay Sauna’s or Gay Bathhouses as they are sometimes called, they have been part of the Gay landscape for many years and there is a reason men go back again and again. Contrary to popular opinion it’s not just older men looking anonymous sex, although a lot of that does go on. You have to enter these places with an open mind but they can be a lot of fun so here are some tips, tricks and rules for visiting a Gay Sauna.

Take a Buddy

Like most things in life, first time experiences are best shared. If you know someone who already goes to a Gay Sauna, great – tag along with them and they can show you the ropes. If you don’t know anyone then post a personal on GayScene.Org to find someone local to you who you can go with on your first time – who knows you may even make a regular thing of it!

Take Cash

You will obviously need to pay to get in, and many places take cards but some are cash only so check before you go. It’s also a good idea to take some change with you for lockers and vending machines. Some Gay Sauna’s have a café, some only have the machines, most have water fountains as they know how thirsty you get in this steamy, sexy environment but if you need something cold or a bite to eat then cash is needed.

What else to take

Along with cash, a towel, some flip flops or other comfortable beach type shoes – barefoot is not a good idea and many Gay Saunas require you wear some type of footwear as it is steamy and wet to ensure you don’t slip. Take a bag, anything will do sporty type drawstring is enough or washbag to hold your valuables, lube, condoms, your towel or other bits and pieces you feel comfortable with.

What if you get unwanted advances

If someone flirts with you in a Gay Sauna or if they touch or grope you and you are not into them or you don’t like what they are doing – don’t panic, just move away, smile and shake your head – be polite. Remember they are there to have a good time too, just let them know in a nice way and they can move on to someone who is interested. Likewise if you flirt with someone and they don’t respond in the way you want, that’s OK, respect that and move on.

You don’t have to have Sex

If you just want to check a Gay Sauna out before indulging in the sexual side then you can, these places are also good for watching or being watched if that is your thing. Many of the best Gay Sauna’s have a lot of amenities including pools, Jacuzzi’s, gyms, and lounges for those who want to relax and also many have play rooms, glory holes if you want to play more. But do remember you are in a Gay Sauna not a health spa so sex will be happening somewhere whether you choose to join in or not.

When visiting a Gay Sauna, relax, enjoy it and as with everything in life only do things you feel comfortable with.
